The Second World Naked Bike Ride is starting at noon on the back steps of the Legislature. This is a now an event held yearly to protest indecent exposure to auto fumes; celebrate the diversity of the human body in all its forms and also to raise awareness of just how vulnerable cyclists are on the road. Organizers say given how little clothing protects you if you get into an accident, you might as well be naked. That's something that I became acutely aware of when I was hit from behind by an SUV while cycling back on November 19th, 2011. Participation is open to all people of legal age as there will be photographs/videos taken by participants and spectators throughout the ride.
Nudity is not a requirement and is instead "as bare as you dare". All forms of non-oil based transportation such as skate boards, roller blades, scooters, etc. In the past, they have even had people join with walkers, wheelchairs, or even by jogging along beside us. Everyone who choose to disrobe, in whole or in part, will be responsible for keeping their clothing safe. If you have any further questions about this event, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
The naked cyclists will gather at the Legislature at 12 noon on today, probably for about 15 minutes or so to help insure that anyone who wants to come along can do so. The ride itself will be about an hour long at which point all participants will gather at the starting point for a post ride photograph.
Please note that this is a family friendly event and a legitimate protest against car culture therefore lewd behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone who attempts to use this event as a pickup area or to engage in any kind of sexual activity will be ejected from the group without exception.
