The 2017 Invictus Games Toronto will officially launch their National Flag Tour here in Victoria tomorrow.
The very first flag-bearer Flag bearer is area resident, 32 year old Elizabeth Steeves who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a mobile support equipment operator.
During her service Steeves suffered several training accidents -- including crushing the patellas in both knees, and crushing vertebrae in her neck -- but says participation in sports and the Invictus Games has had a positive impact on her life.
Steeves helped unveil the decorated Jaguar Land Rover that will be travelling across Canada this (Tuesday) morning, and met the team that will start the flag's journey - saying it bought up emotions:
"There's mixed emotions about how far I've come, thinking about some of the things I've had to overcome throughout this entire adventure. I'm also very, very excited to represent my country."
The Invictus Games National Flag Tour will travel from coast to coast visiting military bases, legions, and communities who have been a part of Canada's 150-year history.
The Games use the power of adaptive sport to help wounded warriors on their journey to recovery and was established by Prince Harry with the first event taking place in London in 2014.
The Invictus Games Toronto 2017 will feature 550 competitors from 17 nations participating in 12 adaptive sports, including, for the first time, golf.
