GAS LINE HIT AT CAMOSUN LANSDOWNE CAMPUS

Jul 28, 2010

STUDENTS AT CAMOSUN COLLEGE HAD A LITTLE "BREAK" FROM THEIR FIRST CLASS WEDNESDAY MORNING AFTER A GAS LINE WAS HIT ON CAMPUS.

THE LINE WAS STRUCK AT ABOUT 830AM AT THE LANSDOWNE CAMPUS, SAANICH FIRE BATTALION CHIEF LAURENCE LABAN SAYS EVERYONE WAS EVACUATED SAFELY

"The break was evident, they were doing excavating on site for some in house construction work they were doing, but they had to go back on the line to a place where they could access it and excavate and stop the flow of gas."

STUDENTS AND STAFF WERE BACK IN CLASS BY 945AM AND LABAN SAYS TRAFFIC WAS BLOCKED OFF FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.

HE NOTED THAT EVERYONE ON SITE ACTED VERY PROFESSIONALLY AND THAT AIDED IN A SUCCESSFUL EVACUATION WITHOUT DISRUPTION.
