RESTORATION OF JOHNSON STREET BRIDGE AS OPPOSED TO REPLACEMENT THE WAY TO GO ACCORDING TO ONE EXPERT
Nov 4, 2009
A MAN WHO HAS SOME 26 HERITAGE BRIDGE RESTORATION PROJECTS ON HIS RESUME SAYS IT WOULD BOTH PRACTICAL AND COST EFFECTIVE TO RESTORE THE JOHNSON STREET BRIDGE RATHER THAN REPLACE IT
FRANK NELSON----A SEATTLE BASED ARCHITECT---MET WITH THE JOHNSON STREET BRIDGE.ORG GROUP AT A PUBLIC MEETING LAST NIGHT
NELSON SAYS ONE AREA OF DEBATE LIES BETWEEN A 40 YEAR LIFE EXTENSION WITH A RESTORATION PROJECT VERSUS A -HUNDRED YEAR FUTURE FOR A NEW BRIDGE
"every bridge is going to require maintenance and rehabilitation at some point in it's 100, 120, 180 year life, whatever that may be. So, just like the paint on this bridge, the paint on the new bridge would have to be re-done in 25 years, just like the electrical system on this bridge, the electrical system on the new bridge would have to be done 25 years, and 25 years, and 25 years"
NELSON WAS A GUEST ON CFAX 1070 WITH MURRAY LANGDON THIS MORNING
