LANGFORD MAYOR PLEASED WITH GOVERNMENT INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING
Sep 25, 2009
LANGFORD MAYOR STEW YOUNG SAYS HE IS THRILLED WITH THE INFRASTRUCTURE GRANTS THE CITY RECEIVED FROM THE PROVINCIAL AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS YESTERDAY
SPEAKING WITH ADAM STIRLING THIS AFTERNOON YOUNG SAYS IT'S ALL ABOUT COOPERATING WITH ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT
"you know, I'll work with any level of government, I worked with the NDP when we put the Millstream Interchange in, and that was 15,16 years ago, when I first became mayor. They delivered that and we appreciate that. I'll work with the Liberal government, I'll work with any government and I'll do whatever I have to do to get the best I can for my community and my residents"
LANGFORD RECEIVED THE LARGEST GRANT OUT OF VICTORIA AREA GRANTS----13.3 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE LANGFORD CITY CENTRE SPORTSPLEX
YOUNG SAYS HE FEELS THAT LOBBYING MP FOR SAANICH AND THE GULF ISLANDS GARY LUNN PLAYED A PART IN THE GRANT THEY RECEIVED
YOUNG REMAINS OPTIMISTIC THAT FUNDING FOR THE SPENCER ROAD INTERCHANGE MAY COME IN THE FUTURE
HOWEVER YOUNG SAYS HE FEELS THAT THE PROJECT SHOULD FALL UNDER FEDERAL AND PROVINCIAL JURISDICIONS----HE FEELS THE CITY RECEIVED THE GENEROUS GRANT FOR THE SPORTSPLEX TO MAKE UP FOR THE LACK OF FUNDING FOR THE INTERCHANGE
"I think that in light of the fact that we didn't get much for the interchange, that might have had a bit of a play too in giving Langford some money because they know what we're having to deal with to build our own interchange, that really should have been a federal and provincial project"
YOUNG SAYS THE CITY WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH DEVELOPERS ON THE PROJECT AND ASSIST THEM IN GETTING OUT OF THE RECESSION----HE SAYS LANGFORD IS NOT TRYING TO BANKRUPT ANY OF THE DEVELOPERS
