West Shore Mounties believe they've solved a targeted arson

July 24, 2012 10:30 from

West Shore RCMP are recommending charges of arson against a pair of Saanich men, in connection with a fire that destroyed a vehicle and damaged a house in Kelly Road last week.

RCMP believe the incident was targeted, not random.   Sergeant Max Fossum says they were led to their suspects by a vehicle that was observed near the scene...

"A pick-up truck was observed, parked approximately 200 feet from the victim's residence.  A police check, on the computer revealed nothing abnormal, but later on that day another officer actually checked that vehicle, and (learned) it was reported stolen from Saanich.  And...what happened was good investigation and great communication between Saanich PD and the West Shore detachment ... resulted in the quick arrest of the two males for the arson"

Fossum says one of the men will face a second charge of public mischief, for allegedly filing a false theft report.
