The closure of the Ogden Point breakwater will last longer than expected.
People are being kept away from the breakwater while handrails are being installed -- the topic of much debate around the city.
The installation of handrails along the Ogden Point breakwater is about three quarters complete, but will not be finished by the end of this month as originally expected.
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority says it needs to re-pave several sections of the breakwater, and will also complete that work now.
The cost of the project is $425,000.
Critics have complained the handrails will ruin the breakwater experience, but the Harbour Authority says it didn't have a choice after a federal safety inspection last year.
