The cause of a fire last night in Saanich remains under investigation.
Fire crews were called out to a home in the 1700 block of Hartwood shortly after 6:00pm.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames on the first and second floors coming from the rear part of the single family dwelling.
Those flames were said to be quickly extinguished, but the department says more time was needed to dowse the fire through the walls and upper floor.
The building is believed to have been empty at the time of the fire. The cost of the damage to the structure has not yet been determined.
