A 300 year-old tree in Cadboro Bay that’s slated to be cut down will stand a little longer after local residents stood in the way this morning.
When crews arrived to cut down the tree, which has been given the nickname “Dougy Fir,” homeowners rallied to stop the saws.
Police intervened in the confrontation and the crew left without cutting down the tree.
The municipality of Saanich says the douglas fir needs to go because it’s infected, but locals want better tests done first. They’ve even acquired a lawyer who’s filing an injunction today.
